Now the world’s biggest annual flower show, RHS ‘Hampton Court’ is a riot of colours, sights and sounds. While Chelsea has a polished, grand kind of atmosphere, Hampton Court is a slightly more down to earth, family friendly event – though no less spectacular for that.
Highlights this year include the ‘Butterfly Dome’, where you can walk through clouds of South American and Indonesian butterflies as they flit and dance about amongst the tropical foliage.
If you have children that you’d like to take along then Saturday is the best day, as the show is hosting a ‘Reach for the Stars’ family day of events, including story-telling, seed-sowing and cooking as well as other rocket-themed activities.
As always, no RHS show would be complete without the beautiful show gardens and along with more traditional garden categories, like the ‘show’ and ‘city’ gardens, Hampton Court also hosts a number of ‘avant garde’ conceptual gardens each year – something to really make you stop and review what a garden can be and look like.
