Although the weather is truly ‘merry and bright’ this week, there’s no better way to chase away the gloom of the dark winter evenings than by visiting an illuminated garden. These winter wonderlands are great for families, couples – everyone really – and make a great evening out in the run up to Christmas.
Here’s a few of the best ones in Hampshire and Surrey this December…
This beautiful red brick 18th century house has its own walled garden, which will be lit up with magical lights from 1-21st December. Entrance to the walled garden illuminations costs £8.00 and is in addition to the normal entry fee of £4.00 during the ‘Christmas Fair’. Entrance to the garden is free to National trust members, but NT members still need to pay £8.00 to see the walled garden lights.

Kew Gardens has a newly designed 1 mile illuminated pathway this winter, with magical lights, laser beams across the lake and a scented fire garden! Full details of this ever popular event can be found on the website. Tickets need to be booked in advance and cost from £18 for an adult ticket. See the website here for full details. The lights will be on display until January 2nd.
This year RHS Garden Wisley will be all a-glow until January 2nd! And the display of illuminated blooms, lit-up trees and festive decorations promises to be bigger and better than ever. There’s also a chance to shop and eat. If you choose to visit the garden after 3pm (closes at 8pm) then adult entry costs just £11, with kids tickets just £4.00. See the website here for all the details.
Here’s hoping you can venture out to enjoy a little of the Christmas magic!
