At 5pm on 2nd December, National Treasure, RHS Ambassador and Bake Off judge, Mary Berry will be switching on the Christmas lights at RHS Wisley. Thereafter Mary will be available for book signing and the Christmas shop will be open until 8.30pm.
Of course, Christmas lights at Wisley aren’t the normal twinkly variety showing Father Christmas and his reindeer – they are rather more botanical than that – though no less magical and beautiful. Wisley has commissioned Jigantics (www.jigantics.com) light installations team to place great big illuminated flowers throughout the garden. These over-size blooms seem to float above you as you walk amongst them, and take the form of familiar garden favourites like tulips and daisies.
The RHS team recommend viewing them at dusk, just before the garden closes at 5pm (last entry 4pm), but they are equally striking in daylight, too. If you do decide to visit late in the day between 3rd Dec and 3rd Jan 2016, you won’t be charged full price either – £6 adult, £3 child for entry to the garden between 3pm and 4pm. These times and prices also apply for the ‘light switch-on’ event.
