Kokedama, also known as Japanese string gardening, is the art of wrapping plant roots in moisture retentive, moss balls, bound with string, so that they can be hung up, indoors and out. They are a beautiful alternative to more traditional hanging baskets and make for a more modern look, if that’s your ‘thing’!
Petersham Nurseries (www.petershamnurseries.com) have two in-house experts who are running a Kokedama course as part of their festive workshops, and will guide you through the whole process, using festive plants and bulbs. You’ll have three completed pieces to take home at the end of the workshop, and the cost of £40 per person includes all materials and refreshments. However, BOOK SOON as these courses are very popular.
Festive Woodland Floral Arranging and Tablescapes
If your flower arranging is lacking a little finesse – I know mine is – then this could be the festive course for you. Run by Petersham Nurseries in-house flower arranging specialists, you’ll be able to create a Christmas floral display using British grown plants, and in the afternoon practise making a table display for the ‘big day’ using foraged greenery that can be found in the garden and countryside. By the end of the day you’ll have a piece to take home, too… not as large as this ‘beauty’ on the left, but none-the-less full of festive foliage.
The course costs £75 per person and includes all materials, refreshments and a few seasonal nibbles, as well as a glass of prosecco. Once again, BOOK SOON as Petersham’s courses get booked up early.
And a bit more…
